KU Flight Research Lab

About Us
The primary goal of the KU FRL is to conduct basic and applied research related to the development of advanced aerospace technologies. Our research focuses on applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) in aerospace engineering, swarm of unmanned aerial systems, manned and unmanned aircraft teaming, and adaptive guidance, navigation, and control (GNC).

Polar Research
The FRL partners with CReSIS, the Center for Remote Sensing and Integrated Systems, to conduct ice-sounding in Antarctica and Greenland using various UAS, as well as snow-depth sounding in North Dakota using a Cessna 172. On our most recent trip, the team traveled to Greenland to conduct UAV radar-sounding to provide additional information for glacier predictive models.
